COPTR (https://coptr.digipres.org/) is a registry of digital preservation tools and workflows. Its main aim is to help individual practitioners discover preservation tools and tactics that might help them tackle particular preservation challenges. It’s been running for many years, but recently the software that it runs on has become very hard to maintain. It has also become increasingly difficult to prevent spam entries being added to it, while user contributions have dropped. For the time being, we’ve had to put it into read-only mode. The Open Preservation Foundation (OPF) and the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) are now working together to try and stabilise and clean up the system, and to work out what to do next. We need to update the current system, but to get this right, we need help from everyone who uses (or wants to use) COPTR! To inform our next steps, we’re sending out a brief user needs survey for anyone interested in digital preservation tools and workflows. The survey form is here: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=MfK2XU29zki7zORXbFUlCSglVfcI6adPgq-W8CNaemdUOU9ZWEtCQ1ZFRlFGWUtZRUpOUFUwMVFTNS4u Please fill it in and let us know what you think we should do with COPTR! (Please note that we won’t share any individual responses publicly without permission, only aggregate statistics.)
